Some people are just born with the entrepreneurial gene. My podcast guest today, Dan Novaes, is one of them. Dan started his first company (defined by him as one that generated a couple thousand dollars each month – pretty impressive!) at the age of 15, and has started approximately 10 businesses since then. He’s currently the co-founder and CEO of Current Media, a blockchain enabled multimedia platform that empowers a new generation of media streamers, one in which users are rewarded by streaming music.
Novaes shares his growth journey from a startup genius to a leader; from a founder running a fear-based organization to a collaborative one at Current Media. He describes how focus, empathy and emotional intelligence have helped him take his business to the next level.
Here are my three big takeaways from the conversation:
1. When something isn’t done according to his expectations, he tries to understand how he may have impacted the situation before reacting. Did he communicate his expectations clearly? What was his contribution to the miscommunication?
2. Hiring a coach helped him grow himself as a leader – it provided a feedback loop that helped him assess his strengths and weaknesses and step up his game. Because of these benefits, he has hired coaches for his executives as well.
3. Finding one thing to focus on, rather than spreading himself thin, has been integral in building a long term business.
